Update and New Drawings

Some new changes are coming to the site, as well as the development of the official Transmissions From Yonder Shore website, which will aim to be launched in the coming weeks. The lack of Featured Transmissions is in large part due to the implementation of the new website.

Also soon to come to artofchriskaplan.com is the Panel Project, which is a multiple installment of an on-going series of panels. Thank you for being patient with these updates.

For those of you that made it out to last Saturday's Sophomore. Peacock performance at the Lit Lounge, we much appreciate it, and hope you enjoyed the vibrations. The energy was high, and the drawing from that night will be finalized and up on the website soon.

For now I would like to leave you with two new drawings inspired by live Sophomore. Peacock:

"World Tree" was the first live drawing introducing the newest member of Sophomore. Peacock, the strange, ethereal musings of sTRNGLV.

"Tail End of AUM" is one of two Live drawings from the Transmission in C# for the zodiacal sign of Taurus, which can be heard in completion on the third introductory EP by Sophomore. Peacock "Norm de Plume" titled "Taurus Apart."

...will be presenting a special one-of-a-kind performance/demonstration of the Transmissions project. This Multimedia Vibratory Event coincides with the Zodiacal Water Trine (D#/G/B) and as such is presented as part of the Evolver Spore "The Spirit of Water."

It is believed that each phase of the Zodiac corresponds to specific tones and colors; by aligning ourselves with these measured vibrational frequencies, we strive to create aleatoric works of musical and graphic art that are not only structured despite their spontaneous creation, but acutely attuned to the time, place, and populace of their conception. It is our belief that by unifying and synchronizing multiple vibrational strands in this manner, we are able to "tune" the collective unconscious, just as one would a radio.

You may be asking why you have been seeing keys and zodiac months listed simultaneously the past few months, that's because of a project I am working on in tandem with Christopher Bruno entitled "Transmissions" which is due for completion in 2011. Evolver.net Spore and Featured Drawing for May 2010

On Wednesday April 28, 2010, Reality Sandwich and Evolver.net held their monthly Spore event, which is the subject of various evolution in consciousness based topics. This past Spore was on psychedelics, featuring speakers Daniel Pinchbeck and Dr. Neal Goldsmith, who had recently returned from a successful MAPS conference in San Jose, California. The Spore discussed the important topic of the future of psychedelics for transformative practice and psychotherapy.

The monthly events are designed to inspire and build an active community with the common goal of evolving our consciousness. For almost a year, the Spore regional events have brought together people across the continent and overseas to build upon this community, offering a place where people can express such desires and take a part in conscious change.

The night didn't end with the speakers, as they were only a precursor for a larger evening of an interactive community. The night offered live music, reiki, tarot readings, live painting and drawing, and much much more. I was fortunate to be able to participate in the live drawing, and this is what was transmitted: Crystalline Path.

Psychedelics are becoming more positively portrayed in the mainstream press, and the majority of the Reality Sandwich readership and those involved in the Evolver.net community are fully aware of the transformative powers of psychedelics. In the right context, psychedelics can be powerful tools of consciousness evolution, propelling minds inwards and outwards to a beautiful expanse where in which we find that we are all intimately connected, life in crystalline infinity. Worldwide and cross-culturally, psychedelics have been used alongside meditation and yoga to open the doorway to the other side, the realm beyond our sight that intimately holds the fabric of all realities together, the so-called god-force.

Whatever term you use to call it, one thing is certain: our reality, dominated by our senses and honed by our society, is only one path of many. We find ourselves a part of an intimate round that keeps spinning and spiraling further along an unseen route, to and away from a center hub, weaving threads of existence from the mind of the Great Dreamer. Fantasy and reality blur together to form a clear truth that shines like a bright diamond in the sky becoming the source of all life, the infamous benben stone of the Egyptians, the Holy Grail, the inner truth of all matter and anti-matter, the crystalline path to the gods.

The Tree Within
(18"X24" Ink and Pastel created to "Icaro: Shamanic Songs")

    Life is a matter of light and vibration dependent on the frequency of the waves set forth with the initial catalyst of motion, the spark that propelled all matter and reality as we know it, the Big Bang.
    Music is an aspect of that frequency. Light slowed to the denser wave lengths of sound, where gravity is altered and the empty space held together by the unseen glue of dark matter, creates a field of resonance.
    Throughout all cultures of the world, whether ancient or current, music has been used to heal, bring forth altered states of consciousness, and communicate with the divine.
    In South America, the Amazon region of Peru, these constitute sacred songs called Icaros that are taught to shamans, the communicators of the unseen mythic realm, through spiritual ceremonies with the Vine of Souls, ayahuasca. The altering of perception, the changing of vibration, allows the master shaman to see a different reality with its own set of language and symbols that are expressed through a change of frequency, and these Icaros are aligned with this realm.
    As humans, we grow accustomed to our dominant reality, our everyday world, and grow desensitized to the greater world that is expressed internally and externally, beyond our engrained perception. Icaros are a powerful example of the beautiful healing ability of song and the nature of plant consciousness communicating with our own.

Angel and Serpent

Angel and Serpent represents the dichotomy of the mutual celestial beings seen throughout altered states of consciousness and represented in world mythology. Angels and celestial serpents have cross-culturally existed as emissaries of an ethereal realm, giving forth both creation and knowledge. The falling strand of DNA, the "cosmic serpent" (see Jeremy Narby's "The Cosmic Serpent"), and the earth and celestial dragons, with wings falling towards Earth, all impregnating the primordial waters with life, the catalyst of evolution. Life always weaves a thread back home, the Tree of Life, DNA, and ayahuasca ("the vine of souls") are tools that point towards an inner trajectory, enabling the mind and soul of man a passage back to the realm of spirit, and to realities beyond our normal physical senses, exploring a palate of the infinite.

The Essence of Two

Spawning Life 2009

Freedom. The absolute facade. No one is ever free because we are all a part of a system of one, and at the same time at the whim and mercy of others.

Each pull and tug at the string causes vibrations that mold and manipulate your personal trajectory.

The One 2008

Words are often hollow, without true meaning. Nothing can truly describe the intense emotions of the human mind, the song of nature, and the will of the earth. Words cannot describe these feelings, for only feelings can. Transitory vibrations from one particle to the next.

What puts two people, two particles, on a collision course with each other? What is the force of tension that nags two particles to interact and meet throughout the distance of the cosmos? Tension is the cohesion of all matter. Two opposing forces pit against each other at opposite ends. And, as the threads become taunt, the threads twist and spin. It becomes a spindle in motion, first one way, and then coming to a stop before reversing. Back and forth, endlessly.

These two points of tension allow the energy to build, until it reaches a threshold, which once passed, the energy releases in a brilliant climax that sparks a new beginning, a Third.

Dual Maya 2009

Conflict, it's all that seems to propel life. But even greater is the essence of love. Love and conflict, two binaries that are the same at the core, for they both bind and pull, increasing in energy through give and take. Love is an amazing force because the coming together of two particles that search each other out from across the cosmos brings forth a great amount of forward kinetic energy, and when met, the climax is great, capable of creating or destroying anything. It is complete fusion, rather than fission, that allows two beings, or particles, to conform into a new third.

Is that the purpose of this life? An attempt at that fusion? Are we here simply because of a great search that has brought us through time and space to this arena? Or, is this just an illusionary landscape, a drama written to maximize productivity created by this timeless search of two particles coming together? Like the Gaia hypothesis of the Earth, does the omniverse have a consciousness and instincts of survival whereupon organisms just occupy larger organisms to keep the cycle propelled? If that is true, then it stems to reason that the omniverse is but an organism for a larger system of consciousness. But if we follow this great chain of being, where does it end? How can we even fathom such a scenario, and why as human beings do we find it necessary to ponder such things?

New Drawings and Reality Sandwich Bites

Hey everyone,

October is here and and almost gone, and it's time for an art update. I have posted 6 new drawings, inspired by a few new 2009 albums along with more live sonic musings by Sophomore.Peacock Collective.

Rope of Life

   Story is hidden within the very fabric of our being. Its bones lay the foundation of our civilization, encompassing every human initiative and interaction, cultivating perhaps the most profound discipline of all human endeavors, showing its many masks from oral tradition of folklore to the visual depictions on the silver screen. For the past 195,000 years, our species' brain neurology has not changed, reaching "full anatomical modernity," save for a prominent leap 35,000-40,000 years ago in which human culture spawned from the deep recesses of the Upper Paleolithic mind, paving the way for the human imagination as we see today, evolving throughout natural and unnatural changes creating a vast network of ever-expanding thought (Hancock 27: 2007).
   As human beings, we are all story tellers. From the corner dry cleaner to a lawyer's closing statement, from the bushman of the Kalahari to a molecular biologist, we all have an individual imprint upon our collective tale as a species. The human story, my story, our story, does not begin or end with solely our collective point of view. Under the surface, on a deeper molecular level, our body’s configuration is continually undergoing transformation and rewrites as cells die and are reborn, and alterations of set and setting begin to adapt the core language that binds us to all life, DNA.
   Our early awareness in Western science of DNA has grown in leaps and bounds over the past several decades, showing in a scientific context the interconnectedness of all life. Only slight variations in the code are needed to drastically alter a species, and this systematic game of genetic scrabble has been in effect for four billion years, distinguishing itself as the most consistent system of life, in which 97% of "junk DNA" is unknown. When this "junk DNA" is applied to linguistic tests such as the Harvard University study dealing with Zipf's Law, results show that this 97% of unknown material compares to data based languages. But what does this mean to us as a "civilized" species?
   Cross-cultural and cross-disciplinarian work by anthropologist Jeremy Narby in his book The Cosmic Serpent, show's that shamans in altered states of consciousness "see" universal entropic phenomena that mirror scientific imagery of DNA when stimulated by a DMT-based brew known as ayahuasca. According to Narby, DNA emits ultra-low frequency photons, and when the body is stimulated with an increase in the endogenous chemical DMT, the subject can "see" DNA (104: 1998).
   My anthropological research of the past several years has been a study of the collective archetypes within the unconscious realms of our species. Like I stated earlier, as a species our brain composition has not changed for almost 200,000 years, therefore despite cultural filters and differences due to time and place, our thought processes have been the same. Studies in ASC, altered states of consciousness, show that collectively humans experience the same or very similar entropic phenomena whether the ASC has been induced by deep meditation techniques, the use of external endohallucinogenic plant substances, or even in reported cases of near-death-experience. It appears that by accessing these altered states of consciousness, we can access the same planes of awareness of our ancestors thereby giving us greater insight into where our society is headed by illuminating us to what shaped our consciousness so long ago. Within our own mythological context, science, namely quantum physics has brought to attention, and shown the distinct possibility of multiple planes of existence, becoming a common rhetoric within the scientific community.
   I have been using these altered states of consciousness, accessed through shamanic practices such as breath alteration and meditation, to enter a trance state while drawing. In these states, I allow my mind to work separately from my hand and allow the images to be created from the ether where archetypal imagery has been passed through our psyche, emerging throughout the ages. Generally, my drawing sessions are guided by music, as I believe the vibrations have distinct effects on the pineal gland. Research done by Dr. Rick Strassman has pointed that this could be the originator of the endogenous chemical DMT, which subsequently aids altered states of consciousness, guiding the body and imagery produced. My goal has been to access the realms that make us who we are as human beings, and to the greater web of consciousness that we are apart. Just as we are host to a series of organisms, we are subject to that of an even larger organism, that of the Earth, our original mother. The necessary and inevitable invention of a technological Western society allowed us to have global reach as a species and develop global tools of communication via satellite and the internet, but it has a side effect that removes us from the collective mindset and has brought us to a crossroads where we now must bridge the gap between East and West, Science and Shamanism (the sacred), patriarchy and matriarchy, and step into a new age, a hybrid balanced society that is globally culturally aware of the interconnectedness of all life. Science, deriving from Western thought, has been catching up with this philosophy, and we are in a pivotal time of awakening in which we now know that the choice is ours to evolve into a "higher" role and accept harmony with our natural origins, creating a society that can grow and flourish sustainably.
   By accessing different states of reality that we are not dominantly ingrained to, we can communicate beyond our current means with forces that we are only now starting to believe could exist. I'm very interested in the role of dark matter and how 80% of all calculable gravity comes from an unknown source. Modern science is continuing to explore and develop new means to measure and calculate the precise role of these forces, and their effects upon all life. The purpose of my drawings is to act as a window into the collective unconscious and open doors of communication with what has been evolving with us right before our very eyes.

I wanted to say thank you to the sonic shamans of Sam Roberts Band and the management for putting up "Love Revival" and a link to this website up on their website www.samrobertsband.com. Love Revival was created after seeing to live performances by the band back in February and subsequent listenings of Chemical City on Vinyl and Love at the End of the World digitally. The earth and our human community is lucky to have such musicians donating their energy to healing our world (and how we view the world) with song.

Thank you to all the came out to the Crossroads on April 20th, 2009 making the first Meeting of the Minds a success, a special thanks to Dan Levine for his assistance in forming the show and to all the bands and artist that made it possible: Sophomore.Peacock, Rubber Skunk, Quimby Mountain Band, ShottyMike and the MadHeads, Fun Machine, Daniel Holland, and Lisa Conrad.

The season has kicked off with some great fests and I've been musically recharged and ready to get more drawings, paintings, and begin the second installment of my live panel backdrop (pictures of first segment to be up on site soon). The drawing from 4/20 will be scanned and updated shortly, along with updates on drawings from Some Kind of Jam 4 and post Dead.

I would also like to update you on some plans for the site, including essays and non-fiction writings dealing with my current anthropological research revolving around altered states of consciousness, mythology, and musicology. There will also be external postings linking to various articles by outside writers that will have a similar focus.

4/20 Art and Music Fest

Come celebrate a night of live painting and music, featuring six of the most influential bands in the area and three visual artists to give you a sensory overload of light and sound. The bands include ShottyMike and the MadHeads, Quimby Mountain Band, Ellis Ashbrook, Fun Machine, Rubber Skunk, and introducing Sophomore. Peacock complimented by the visionary works of Lisa Conrad, Daniel Holland, and Chris Kaplan.

Hey all,

Welcome to the home of the Art of Chris Kaplan. My mission is to raise awareness of the interconnectedness of all life and the importance of a conscious evolution in consciousness. What that means, is that the vibrations of life have brought us to a pivotal crossroads for our species and its role on the Earth. Through tremendous conflict, which is the seed of change, we are beginning to awaken to this task, and little by little we are spreading the light. We now know that we have a choice to take responsibility and decide to evolve into this new role, creating a global community that thrives on diversity based upon the notion of a unified one. We are all individual travelers on our own journeys and therefore our goal can be to ease the burden by aiding our fellow man and all other beings that share our home and plane of existence.

We all must be true to our selves and follow our hearts pursuit in order for us to awaken to our individual tasks. Never let fear overwhelm your sight and prevent you from evolving to your own bliss. This requires you to be steadfast and ever vigilant in nurturing the light of your heart so its energy can be a beacon to all others.
